PAYROLL SPECIALIST

The Payroll Specialist, with some supervision, is responsible for processing payroll for approximately 250 employees. Core functions of this role include payroll data / timecard validation, data entry, confirmation, reporting, ensuring confidentiality of payroll data and entering data in accounting systems. The ideal candidate has experience with public accounting/payroll functions, California payroll regulations, and account reconciliations/monthly close processes.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the complete confidentiality and privacy of all payroll data. Enter data into accounting systems.
  • Analyze and review timecard data to ensure compliance with government and company regulations and accurate data entry.
  • Oversee accurate disbursement of payroll including garnishments, benefits and taxes consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws.
  • Verify accuracy of data entry including per diems, additions, benefits elections, deductions, and garnishments.
  • Complete account reconciliations for payroll and bank related accounts.
  • Prepare and maintain all payroll processing documents and reports.
  • Process and report benefit elections (401k, HSA, Medical Benefits, etc.).
  • Work with managers, finance, and HR to resolve employee questions.
  • Assists in implementation of and compliance with internal controls.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications

  • Associates/Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar business-related field.
  • Experience handling highly confidential information.
  • 2 years payroll experience.
