Job Description:

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for accurately computing and processing payroll for three entities. Posts payroll data and prepares routine reports and/or payments to government agencies, insurance companies, and others. Calculates and processes special checks. This position requires an extremely detail oriented person with significant knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations.

 

Job Duties:

·         Responsible for internal company payroll processing for three entities semi-monthly.

·         Cross train on prevailing wage weekly payroll and serve as backup when needed.

·         Respond to employee inquiries regarding wages, deductions, and other payroll related matters.

·         Coordinate with other departments to ensure timely collection of timesheets.

·         Edit time transactions for missing or incorrect punches. Update and maintain employee information in time system.

·         Biweekly activities include: input weekly hours, distribute paychecks, void/ create manual checks as required.

·         Maintain knowledge and ongoing changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll process.

·         Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential.

·         Assists in annual company audit, worker’s compensation audit, and other regulatory audits.

 

Job Requirements:

·         Knowledge of Generally Accepted Payroll Principles and compliance requirements

·         2-5 years of payroll administration experience required

·         Industry-specific experience preferred

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office and data entry

·         Proficient in eLation and Spectrum Payroll System preferred

·         Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division quickly and accurately

·         Must be able to type 45 WPM and use a ten key calculator by touch

·         Effective oral and written communication skills

·         High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality

·         Must comply with all company policies and safety procedures

·         Must have good time management and the ability to meet deadlines

·         Adherence to company CPNI policy

·         Must actively participate in a team environment and practice “Corporate and Spirit of 46 values”

 

Physical Requirements:

·         Must be able to sit for long periods of time

·         Must have minimal ability to stand, sit, squat, bend, kneel, twist, crawl, reach, push, and pull as required for light duties of standard office clerical positions

·         Occasional lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs.

·         Exposure to air-conditioned/heated office environment

·         Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word level

·         Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing data, operation of office equipment, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work
