Linfield University is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join our IT team as a Network/Systems Analyst. Position Summary

The Network/Systems Analyst supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of Linfield University's network infrastructure and related systems. Working closely with the Network Engineer, this position plays a key role in maintaining reliable, secure, and performant network services across campus. The role also provides backup support for server and systems administration to ensure continuity of IT operations. This is an entry- to mid-level position well-suited for a candidate who is eager to grow their skills in a collaborative, higher education environment.

 

Essential Functions

 

Network Administration

• Configure, monitor, and maintain network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, and VPN solutions

• Assist with network upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure projects as directed by the Network Engineer

• Monitor network performance and availability; troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues in a timely manner

• Maintain network documentation including diagrams, configurations, and asset inventories

• Support wireless networking infrastructure across campus facilities

• Assist in evaluating and implementing new networking technologies as the university transitions its network environment

• Manage network performance monitoring (NPM) and application performance monitoring (APM) systems, including setting thresholds and alerts

• Manage logging, including configuration of syslog and SIEM platforms

• Maintain documentation including network diagrams, capacity planning, port mappings, VLAN maps, and infrastructure inventory

 

Systems Support

• Provide backup support for server and systems administration tasks in the absence of the Senior Systems Administrator

• Assist with routine server maintenance, patching, and monitoring as needed

• Support integration between network infrastructure and server/storage systems

 

Security & Compliance

• Assist in maintaining network security configurations including firewall rules, access control lists, and VPN policies

• Support efforts to identify and remediate network vulnerabilities

• Adhere to IT security policies and assist in enforcing network access standards

 

Collaboration & Service

• Work cooperatively with the Network Engineer, Senior Systems Administrator, and broader IT team

• Provide technical guidance and escalation support to the service desk on network-related issues

• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

 

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience

• 1–3 years of experience in network administration or a related IT role

• Working knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols, DNS, and DHCP

• Hands-on experience with enterprise networking equipment

• Familiarity with firewall administration and VPN technologies

• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

• Effective written and verbal communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with network monitoring tools and ticketing systems

• Exposure to server administration (Windows Server and/or Linux)

• Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or equivalent

• Experience in a higher education environment

 

Working Conditions

• Standard office environment with occasional work in data center or telecom closet settings

• May require occasional after-hours or weekend work for maintenance windows or urgent issues

• Physical requirements include the ability to lift and rack equipment up to 50 lbs
