Network Engineer is directly responsible for the day-to-day operation of the overall LAN/WAN environment including all Routers, Switches, VPNs, Firewalls, and adjunct network devices. The Network Engineer is responsible for maintaining the maximum level of availability for the network and will drive continuous improvement in operational procedures, standards and network design to achieve this goal. Additionally, s/he will provide guidance and mentoring to other members of the team as well as work directly with the Sr. Network Architect, System Architect, Infrastructure Manager and IT Director to optimize the network design and keep the lights-on support procedures.
Core Duties:
Provides technical leadership in networking technology and administrative support for multifaceted network systems.
Support all aspects of the voice and data networks globally, including installation, administration, maintenance and support for firewalls, switches, servers and equipment.
Ensure technical systems and solutions are operating at optimal levels at all times and ensure overall system readiness.
Troubleshoot and resolve problems with network hardware and, in conjunction with the network provider, support and ensure the quality and reliability of the IP backbone.
Develops capacity planning models, ensures planned testing activities are performed and technical criteria are met, and may monitor capacity and adjust accordingly.
Participates in network security guidelines regarding firewall maintenance and rule setting, intrusion detection, filter creation and ensures appropriate encryption requirements are applied.
Contributes to evaluation of services provided by vendors and recommends changes.
Evaluates current technologies and makes recommendations for software and hardware upgrades.
Integrates best practices, standards, procedures and quality objectives across systems infrastructure or platforms.
Maintains appropriate professional designations and up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools.
Provides technical guidance and leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members.
Document and complete all changes in accordance with accepted Change Management policies and procedures.
Performs other related duties as required.
Some lifting up to 28 Kg (60 lbs) may be required
Important Qualities:
Analytical skills - Network Engineers have to examine data networks and decide how to best connect the networks based on the needs and resources of the organization.
Detail oriented – Must be able to create comprehensive plans of the networks with precise information describing how the network parts will work together.
Interpersonal skills - Must be able to work with different types of employees to accomplish goals.
Leadership skills - Direct teams of Jr. Admins or vendors who are involved in projects.
Organizational skills - Network Engineers must coordinate many different types of communication networks and make sure they work well together. Must be able to manage projects and coordinate with vendors, internal customers and timelines.
Minimum Qualifications / Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related fields
At least 3 years of relevant technical experience in Network Admin or equivalent
Demonstrates expertise in architecture and ability in learning and assessing multiple technologies
Minimum requirement - Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
Preferred Qualifications
5 or more years of relevant functional experience in engineer role
Cisco ACI experience preferred but not required
Expert knowledge in multiple domains
Expert knowledge in network design to include VoIP, routing, switching, datacenter and security.
IP addressing to include subnetting, route aggregation, and BGP route maps
Networking and associated protocols including TCP/UDP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, DNS, SNMP and other internet associated protocols
Expert in route and switching
Redundant network systems design experience
Design, implement and manage Cisco Collaboration solutions, UCM, Webex and CUC.
Design, implement and manage Cisco SD-WAN and SD-Access solutions
Design, implement and manage Cisco Security solutions including ISE, Umbrella, firewalls, VPN , S2S.
Design, implement and manage Cisco Datacenter networks and NX-OS switches
Design, implement and manage Cisco UCS environment
Design, implement and manage wireless infrastructure
Experience with infrastructure sizing and capacity planning
Understanding of Satellite networks
