Civil Paralegal II

SUMMARY 

A qualified paralegal (level II) working at the USAO in direct support of one or more Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) providing a variety of technical paralegal services specific to Qui Tam and Civil Corporate Fraud litigation. The work requires wide-ranging and thorough knowledge of the legal system, civil litigation, and civil discovery. Experience with legal research concepts and methods, available research tools and legal reference materials is expected. The daily work will also require consistently high levels of organization and management of substantial quantities of documents, records, data, and various forms of discovery. The work may require financial and legal decision analysis including analysis of documents and information for legal relevance, data summary, conclusions, and recommendations of appropriate action. Assignments will vary based on circumstances of the case and will include primarily sedentary office work including prolonged sitting, walking, standing, bending and carrying of office items, discovery, and case files. 
 

KEY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Analyze relevant statistics in case files against case law and litigation worthiness standards 

• Research available precedence relevant to cases under consideration in order to present case summary to assigned attorneys 

• There may be minimal, intermittent off site field work within the Western District of Virginia, which will include walking, bending, reaching, and standing. 

EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION: 

• The Contractor employee selected shall have at least 3 years of comparable paralegal experience in order to participate in substantive development of cases. 

• Paralegal Certificate is preferred but not . 

• Experience with interpreting voluminous case materials to offer correction to case files (i.e. inconsistent material, leads not investigated) 

• Experience in reviewing, sorting, classifying data to discover patterns of possible discriminatory activity. 

• A four-year undergraduate degree is preferred 

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license for any potential work-related travel
