Job Summary

The Accountant is responsible for performing the general accounting and financial duties for the Colleges and LSSC Foundation including recording the pre-award and post-award grants. Prepare journal entries and process accounting and budget transactions throughout the year. Performs a broad range of accounting duties which requires knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board statements. Responsible for promoting and sustaining a collegial, respectful, and high-performing work environment for all employees.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of month-end and fiscal year-end closing and reporting processes in preparation of Annual Financial Report for both the College and Foundation.
  • Assist in maintaining the property management database.
  • Assist in budget preparations.
  • Reconciliation of all general ledger accounts
  • Serve as backup for Accounts Payable processing/disbursing vendor checks when needed.
  • Prepare invoices and billings.
  • Process employee travel reimbursement requests according to LSSC policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation of audit schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and the ability to become proficient in MS Teams.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and attention to detail skills; ability to anticipate outcomes.
  • Ability to use appropriate technology to organize, synthesize, and communicate data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications & Education

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an administration/accounting position preferably 
    in a two-year college/university setting.
    1. Must have experience in extracting and analyzing financial data for reporting purposes. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required. 
  • Higher education experience preferred. Banner or similar ERP experience preferred


Educational Credentials (Foreign Degrees)

Applicants with foreign transcripts earned outside the United States must submit an evaluation from a credentialing evaluation service recognized by a U.S.-based accrediting body (such as NACES or AICE) to verify that the education/degree meets the minimum requirements for the position. Official transcripts, along with certified English translations if applicable, must be provided within 30 days of hire as a condition of employment.
