The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Lawyer to join our leading Band 1 Structured and Asset Finance team based in Sydney.

In this role, you will work with leading Partners John Angus and Steven Catanzariti, as well has having the opportunity to work with the other HSF finance partners in Australia.

John, a partner since 1986, is internationally regarded as one of Australia's leading experts in cross-border and domestic structured finance. His broad client base spans various industries, including energy, mining, IT, retail, and telecommunications. John's extensive experience and diverse perspective provide invaluable insights for clients in structured financing transactions.

Steven is an asset and structured finance specialist with a distinguished reputation in the Asia Pacific region. Known for his commercial insight, thoroughness, and clarity, Steven has been acknowledged as a Next Generation Lawyer by Legal500 and is featured in the 2024 edition of Best Lawyers. His industry knowledge is vast, and he is a sought-after speaker at key industry events.

You will benefit from the premium exposure advising on transactions in all sectors of the structured finance, asset finance and corporate financing transactions. The group's client base includes financiers, originators, borrowers, lessors, lessees and governmental and international organisations. You will advise on both domestic and cross-border transactions including all types of debt, lease and capital markets driven products, securitisations, receivables financings, vendor programmes and retail finance, including in the private capital and energy transition spaces.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrable experience in delivering technical advice on a range of finance transactions (asset and/or structured finance experience preferred but not essential) from a top tier, national or international private practice environment.

  • An excellent academic record coupled with strong legal skills and a practical mindset.

  • A proactive approach and desire to be an integral member of our leading and supportive team.

  • An ability to work to tight timeframes, collaboratively and at times autonomously.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to demonstrate collegiality within a team.
