Job Description

Background

This role is a 9 months fixed term contract.

The purpose of the role is to support the Australia Finance team in delivering the external reporting requirements of the Australia business across the multiple bases of reporting including US GAAP, Australia IFRS, LAGIC, Bermuda Monetary Authority and Economic Capital Base.

The role will be intimately involved in supporting key month end and quarter end processes, as well as annual statutory financial statement preparation. The role requires a deep understanding of the statutory, regulatory and technical accounting issues in the insurance industry.

The role is broad in nature and includes tax compliance (GST, Transfer Pricing, Corporate tax), accounting analysis and supporting internal and external audit requests.

Duties

Financial Reporting including month end/quarter end journal preparation for PLRA and UMA under various accounting bases (including US GAAP, IFRS, APRA), ensuring that the integrity of the process and the outputs are maintained and continuously improved.

  • Perform and oversee monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations, ensuring the general ledger is accurately maintained and all interfacing systems are correctly posted. Oversee the consolidation of financial results and ensure accurate reporting to Group Finance.

  • Support the preparation of accurate and comprehensive annual statutory financial statements, as well as regulatory and tax returns, in alignment with the December year-end reporting cycle

  • Oversee corporate tax, GST, and other tax-related filings in collaboration with tax advisors

  • Support intercompany reconciliations and transfer pricing arrangements.

Ensuring that the audit process is planned, coordinated and timed to ensure that regulatory reporting is within the agreed timetables.

Support the Finance Team by managing and participating in various tasks and ad-hoc projects as and when required

Manage and maintain an efficient process that enables systematic and organised filing for all documents

Qualifications & Experience

  • Achieved Professional accounting designation (CPA/ACA/ACCA or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 3 years accounting experience with core exposure to accounting, financial reporting and analysis
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and technical accounting skills
  • Strong proficiency in general ledger systems and BI tools, with advanced Excel skills and experience using enterprise finance applications such as SAP AFO or PeopleSoft (or similar) Deep understanding of various accounting frameworks, including IFRS, US GAAP, and US tax accounting. Experience & good understanding of reinsurance/insurance accounting and knowledge of actuarial concepts is ideal, but not necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal/negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships with different functional areas and work effectively within a team environment
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Excellent time management skills, with the flexibility and efficiency to collaborate across multiple time zones and global teams
  • Proactive, adaptable individual with strong leadership, and process evaluation abilities, with a holistic view to technology integration and automation
