Network Engineer
Job Description:
In this position, you will be responsible for configuring and securing Cisco-based network infrastructure, including routers, switches, Identity Services Engine (ISE), Software Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN) and Firepower Threat Defense (FTD), as well as managing Windows/Linux servers, LiveAction, VMware, and security hardware and software. The network is comprised of a dedicated fiber optic backbone with Direct Connections (DX) to AWS GovCloud.
You will be part of a team that builds, maintains, and delivers cloud, network, security, and O&M services across multiple classification levels in the environment. You will plan, design, and deploy network components/configurations to ensure that resources (hardware/software) are in place to enable the team to monitor and manage the IT system infrastructure and all processes and components related to these systems (both hardware and software).
In addition, you will engineer solutions for expanding capacity, improving response time, and streamlining network operations throughout the internal and operational systems, will monitor and analyze mission critical networks and servers, and will set up, manage, and maintain security management and application performance optimization functions across internal and customer systems.
Additional responsibilities include:
• Provide network administration support for development, deployment, and problem identification and remediation of the enterprise network environment.
• Designs, Constructs, tests and implements integrated network, hardware and software solutions, , and/or physical and logical communications networks for the organization.
• Provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 support to service requests and trouble tickets to include Move, Add, and change requests for the enterprise transport.
• Must be able to write and execute detailed network implementations such as topology and rack elevation diagrams.
• Provides technical consulting on high level network designs, platform sizing, infrastructure system design and the application of new technologies.
• Applies extensive industry and enterprise knowledge to identify and recommend integrated solutions, products and services to support the enterprise's accomplishments of business goals or technical needs.
• Able to work on-call nights and weekends if needed to ensure transport availability or to meet service level agreements (SLAs)
• Provide technical assistance to companion work groups in support of overlapping projects and maintain good inter-departmental relations.
• Assess the impact of system changes to the team and to the infrastructure.
• Provide written and in-person status to leadership.
• Ability to travel to sites across the US
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
• Minimum 10 years demonstrated experience engineering, implementing, and maintaining geographically dispersed unclassified and classified networks supporting 1,000 or more users.
• Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and maintaining Software Defined Networking (Cisco technologies preferred)
• Experience mentoring a team of junior network professionals
• Must be able to support limited instances of providing after-hours support for network administration, operations, and maintenance problems.
• Certifications: CCNA and DOD IAT Level II
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills:
• 15 years’ experience engineering, implementing, and maintaining geographically dispersed unclassified and classified networks supporting 1,000 or more users.
• Knowledge of routing protocols OSPF and BGP, IPSEC tunnels, and security zoning on interfaces
• Experience designing, implementing and maintaining VMWare and Nutanix based virtual infrastructure
• Experience with any of the following technologies: Cisco Nexus/Catalyst/ASA/ISR/XE, , AWS, and/or Microsoft Azure.
• Certifications: CCNP Enterprise or higher (CCIE and/or CISSP highly valued); passed Implementing Cisco SD-WAN Solutions (300-415 ENSDWI) Exam.
